A lean, athletic tackle, Clelland is a favorite to win the Maryland state wrestling title after finishing second in the heavyweight division last year (McDonogh is ranked 19th in the nation as a team). He committed to Notre Dame in early May, choosing the Irish over Michigan. Lane’s older brother, Lance, played on the offensive line at Northwestern. Lance, started a total of 29 games in his college career, including 23 straight, at Northwestern University between the years of 1997 to 2001.
Clelland, who helped the Eagles to a 6-4 record this season, would likely spend much of next year adding muscle to his frame. He’ll take part in the Army All-American Bowl in January before joining former schoolmate Brittany Mallory, a freshman on the Irish women’s basketball team, in South Bend.
