The affable Kentucky native verbally committed to Notre Dame during a Memorial Day weekend visit, choosing the Irish over Louisville and Stanford, among others. He plans to pursue a career in broadcast journalism and hopes to do some work at the WNDU (NBC-TV) studio, which is located on the edge of campus.
On the field, Newman fought through some extra attention in 2007 to make 41 total tackles (29 solo, 12 assist). He added nine tackles for loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles for Pleasure Ridge Park, which finished with a disappointing 4-7 record. Another Army All-American, Newman amassed 126 stops in his career (81 solo, 45 assisted), with 31.5 tackles for loss. In his junior season, Newman recorded 68 tackles, 22 TFL, and four forced fumbles. He carries a 3.9 GPA.
