Filer was one of Notre Dame’s primary targets all along, receiving a scholarship offer on the first day allowable (Sept. 1 of 2006). The Army All-American committed to the Irish in late July, spurning the likes of Michigan and Ohio State.
Playing for one of the nation’s top prep programs, Filer notched 293 career tackles (22 for loss), including 107 this season. He also returned his lone career interception for a touchdown this season in a win over Darius Fleming and St. Rita. The Caravan started 12-0 this year before falling to Glenbard North in the Class 8A state semifinals. In his junior season, Filer recorded 87 tackles and eight sacks.
