Roback is one of three confirmed recruits that has given his pledge to the Irish this weekend.
BlueandGold.com has confirmed that indeed Notre Dame has landed verbal commitments today from three players.
Athlete Derek Roback, quarterback Luke Massa (who confirmed via text with BlueandGold.com recruiting analyst Jason Sapp) and defensive end Bruce Heggie Jr. were part of a group of seven prospects hosted by Brian Kelly and his staff this weekend, and none of the three wasted any time offering their pledges to the program.
Roback, 6-3 and 221 pounds out of Waverly, Ohio, was committed to Toledo but received an offer from Notre Dame last week and had a change of heart. He played both quarterback and wide receiver at Waverly High School.
Massa, 6-4 and 205 pounds, was committed to Cincinnati but he also jumped ship when an offer came from Kelly, who Massa grew very familiar with during the recruiting process out of St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati. He is the third quarterback to commit to Notre Dame in this class -- Andrew Hendrix (Cincinnati, Moeller) and Tommy Rees (Lake Forest, Ill.) -- but Roback could be considered a fourth.
Heggie, 6-4 and 235 pounds, might be the most interesting recruit because he came to South Bend all the way from Mount Dora, Fla., without an offer and leaves town as one of 20 commitments from a recruiting class that ranked in the mid 20s by both Rivals and Scout.
These three additions are part of the mad rush for recruits between now and National Signing Day on Wednesday.
Stay tuned to BlueandGold.com for a more thorough look by Sapp at these three recruits.
