Notre Dame has been on a roll lately as they Irish coaches have been able to fill both offensive and defensive needs.
Following Lake Forest, Ill. quarterback Tommy Rees’ verbal to Notre Dame on Tuesday, July 7, outside linebacker Kendall Moore of Raleigh (N.C.) Southeast followed suit today during a press conference in front of friends, family and local media.
Moore keeps Notre Dame's recent recruiting momentum rolling as the No. 12 verbal commitment of the 2010 class.
He makes the twelfth verbal of the 2010 recruiting class. The Irish have their sights on three linebackers in the class, and Moore comes in as an outside backer that could grow into an inside backer. Some feel he may even grow into a defensive end further along in his career.
After a visit to Notre Dame on June 26, the Irish were considered to be in an in-state battle with North Carolina State. Prior to deciding, he listed Duke, Florida State, Maryland and South Carolina as the other competitors.
He wasn’t prepared to tip his hand about where he was headed, but he recently described what stood out to him about the Irish.
“I like them a lot,” the 6-foot-3, 232-pound prospect told BlueandGold.com earlier this week. “Their program is definitely on the rise. Academically they’re on the same level as Duke. They can hang with the highest schools. Their program is one of the better ones recruiting me. They have a great tradition, too.”
He went on to talk about why he chose the school he did.
“It was the right school for me,” he added. “It’s the feeling that I get whenever I think about the school. I know it’s the right situation for me academically and athletically.”
Notre Dame happened to be the school that he expressed those feelings about, and he could sense it since the beginning.
"Notre Dame was a quiet leader the whole time," he reported to Coman Publishing Company's Matt Carter follwowing the announcement.
In his junior season, he recorded 120 tackles, six sacks and three forced fumbles. He’s rated by Rivals.com as a four-star prospect, the No. 14 outside linebacker in the country and the nation’s No. 167 overall player. On Scout.com, he’s listed as a three-star recruit and the No. 16 middle linebacker nationally.
He plans on taking his official visit to Notre Dame for the USC game on October 17.
