Just when it seemed like the Irish had received their fair share of good news this week with verbals from Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller quarterback Andrew Hendrix and Zionsville (Ind.) defensive end Blake Lueders, Friday, June 26 turned out to be another great day for Notre Dame.
Lorenzo Wood is the eighth commitment for 2010.
Apopka (Fla.) cornerback Lo Wood originally planned on announcing his decision between Michigan and Notre Dame at 7 p.m. EDT, but he wanted to change things up a bit. Instead of the standard press conference, he hopped on a plane to make his commitment in person.
What was the flight’s final destination? South Bend, Ind.
"I love how the campus was. You come up here and you're just going to fall in love," he said about his decision to attend Notre Dame during a press conference in South Bend, Ind. "I love how there's only 9,000 people in the school. They got one of the biggest fan bases so that's amazing to me. It's a great school to come. From my town there's nobody from Apopka. You can come to Notre Dame and I start my own name. That's really great."
Wood makes the first cornerback commitment and the eighth overall in the 2010 recruiting class. Wood visited Notre Dame for the Blue-Gold game with Michigan as his leader, but the Irish were able to catch up to the Wolverines. Eventually they took over the lead that led to his pledge.
The Irish are heavy on adding a second in Cape Coral, Fla.’s Spencer Boyd, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas’ Cody Riggs, Palmdale, Calif.’s Joshua Shaw and others.
The 5-foot-10, 160-pound prospect recorded 35 tackles, four tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and five interceptions, bringing one back for a score. He plans on graduating early.
He’s ranked by Rivals.com as a three-star prospect and the No. 32 cornerback nationally. On Scout.com, he’s rated as a three-star prospect and the country’s No. 41 cornerback.
