A hard-nosed player with surprising versatility, Calabrese played a number of positions but projects as the prototype inside linebacker. From the same high school as former Notre Dame tight end Anthony Fasano (2002-05), he gave a verbal commitment to Notre Dame back on May 22, choosing the Irish over the likes of Penn State and Boston College.
