It was easy to realize the Irish football team came to play, and their effort was not lacking. They lacked in overall speed, design, and execution.

Notre Dame had no run threat, and the 4-man USC rush with a 7-man coverage caused interceptions, negative yardage and a few sacks. Unbelievably, no first down was registered by ND until the last play of the third quarter.
